Recently the Street Fighter Legacy YouTube channel posted a teaser trailer for the live-action Street Fighter Assassin’s Fist series on Monday. The trailers features Ryu reflecting on his past in a montage of scenes. It finishes with Ryu performing his signature move the Hadouken. The show seems to have common ground with the early 90s V series that showcased a teenaged Ryu learning how to properly channel ki through his body from an old Chinese martial artist. It is quite literally one of the best representations of video games bridging the gap between fact and fiction within the martial arts. The trailer also reveals that the series will premiere on the Machinima YouTube channel this May before arriving on television, on-demand, Blu-ray, and DVD.
Street Fighter: Legacy director and writer Joey Ansah is helming the series that began filming last July. There was a kickstarter launched last april, but soon cancelled in lieu of the venture receiving full funding from unnamed supporters.
Ansah co-wrote the script for the new series with Christian Howard. The series has gained enough steam that Street Fighter producer Yoshinori Ono announced the live-action feature-length series at San Diego Comic Con in 2012. From one of the biggest fans Of Street Fighter at the Arsenal, here’s hoping Assassin Fist’s continued success.
